S and I decided to visit Dubai’s “Old Town”, being under construction, for some lunch in any of the new concepts. Looking at LeftBank, Momotaro and MangoTree we choose the later, being Thai. The restaurant is incredibly nice styled, nothing over the top to feel uncomfortable and nothing understated Thai; just all was right. The Thai Manageress explained that the concept hails from Bangkok and they are having some branches in Korea, Malaysia, Japan, England and now Dubai.
Of course, being Friday I had a look first at the drinks menu which was very impressive! Just had a look at the private dinning room in the middle of the wine cellar, a huge marble table for twelve, dinning amongst a thousand wine bottles! I settled for the all Thai Singha Beer and moved over to the food order. Pomelo Salad with shrimps was divine, not too spicy, more like the original recipe what you may get in Bangkok!
To keep the bartender busy, I ordered after two beers a Lichii Mojito with coconut milk, a drink I could die for!
Stepping into the kitchen for a glimpse I was surprised to find a huge and spacious kitchen with daylight! One of the nicer kitchens I have seen, therefore the team there seemed be happy; happy staff, happy food!
The duck curry was presented in a half pineapple with some rice. I love duck curry but this one was a bit sweet for me but I guess this is because I know the real taste from Krungtep!
Great restaurant it is and I am sure I be back real soon for some more MangoTree!

In a couple of days Ramadan will start here in Dubai, the holy month for Muslim. Markets are full with dates, nuts and other dried fruits for shoppers to stock up their pantry. During sunrise and sunset Muslim will fast and lavish on food during the night time. A celebration.
For the first time I discovered Date Honey, therefore created a sorbet from this deliciously tasting honey, served with a pistachio Borma pastry, red currant and chocolate.
With Dubai changing almost every day, new players in town arrive with the same pace. Atlantis opening for business on the 24th of September, other hotels on The Palm are soon to be opened as well. One striking building to be completed on the trunk of The Palm is the TrumpTower.
I found the promotional website of Nakeel but I think the website of Donald’s own TrumpDubai will show you a much better view of his vison.
WOW!
