One Year! Time just flew by, to be exact, 125 posts later, SugarHead is one year old. I had such a ball and I never thought that I will have so many loyal readers from all corners of the world.

Over the past years I was reading blogs, in particular food related blogs from around the world. Sadly there are very few here in the United Arab Emirates partly because some of the free blogger sites are blocked, yes, not blogged, blocked by the UAE government. Those few blogs which can be read are not very informative or even interesting to look at. For the past few month I looked closer around the blogger community and finally decided to have one of my own. WordPress was just the way to go and after signing up with my host Network Solution I am set to share my views on food and hotel related stories I encounter here in the UAE and elsewhere in the world.
Above was my first entry, May 6, 2007, nothing much changed over the past twelve month. Header and theme changed though, picture quality perhaps too but how I see food is still the same. I strongly believe that simple food can be simple, as long it is prepared correctly and it is tasty. Sadly, in the past year I sampled many restaurants for the purpose of doing a story. Many times however I was disappointed and it never materialized in a posting; that bad it was. I kept the pictures and some I even deleted for not to be remembered of spending hard earned money on a mediocre meal in some schickie-mickie hotel or restaurant.

I met hundreds of people from the industry and worked with even more, so called professionals. In hotels I noticed especially all the new systems being introduced for all kind of reasons, apparently to protect their guests food safety and other reasons. Some are really concerned and therefore dedicated in delivering good food to dinners; others are just looking from behind their desk, apparently busy introducing the latest ISO. So what?! How does it help a paying guest to know that the particular hotel has a ISO certification of some sort and the beef Stroganoff is a blob of rubber? I still like my food without any ISO sticker on it; I don’t need to know on what field I can trace Lisa, the cow. As long Lisa was a cow and not a Kangaroo I am a happy camper!
