Lost Data Recovery?

Last month I have been to Japan for a two week holiday, taking pictures of almost every and anything. Upon my return to Dubai I was trying to upload the files to my computer but that failed half way in process. Every other attempt was useless and by then my Nikon D200 was not even reading my Lexar 2Gb card anymore. I serched the net for a company here in Dubai who could recover and fix such problems and called Data Recovery Company in media city. I sent the card over even though they quoted 1600 Dihrams for the service. But after a week I still did not hear any news, therefore called them up for enquiry. they had some reading problems and had to fly in a different card reader from the UK. However, after four weeks I was informed that there is absolutely no chance to recover any files from that card. Hmmm…funny, they offer also forensic services but why are they not able to retrieve some of the files off that card? I contacted another company here in Dubai and surely enough got 300 files / pictures burned onto a DVD! and that after four days. Yup, it cost the same amount as quoted by the previous attempt but hey: those images are worth more!
